Killing vm on ESXi

I see this tips on the Duncan Epping blog for the sysadmin that want to kill a VM with "kii -9" VM on ESXi. This is different for ESXi because it's COS-less.

XenDesktop vs View

Today I try the new VDI solution for the two competitors.
For my opinion the Citrix XenDesktop product is a more advanced solution and have more features than Vmware View. First of all the client for the VDI on Xenserver is for all the OS client(Windows, Linux and Mac) instead View client that is only for Windows.
The server is more clean adn linear. I prefer the console of xendestop instead the Web interface of view.

I use for ESX server for the Hypervisor for the VDI VM. For connecting XenDesktop DDC to the vCenter and ESX I disable the SSL authentication for the /sdk access on the Tomcat server. I use this guide. I try the client on WinXP and on Ubuntu 9.10 and is all fine!

For View i use Win2003 for the Brocker and the client is a WinXp machine.

Ho provato le soluzioni VDI di Citrix e Vmware. Mi è piaciuta maggiormante la versione di citrix in quantop il client è multipiattaforma (windows,linux e Mac) e il server con la sua console mi è sembrato più lineare e "pulito".

Per il lab ho usato ESX come server di virtualizzazione. Per collegare ESX a xendesktop ho usato l'articolo sopra citato per collegarli senza usare SSL sulla partizione /sdk del tomcat server di vCenter.

vSphere update 4.0.1

Today I downlaod and install the new version of vSphere. The new version has support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 32 and 64 bit. It resolvs also the bug for the client inside this os. The release notes is here. Some new features are the Paravirtual SCSI Adapter supported for boot on Win2003 and win 2008 VM, Win 2008 R2 and Win 7 officially supported and the support for View 4! Also released vCenter update. The new features is DB2 support.

Oggi è stato rilascita la nuova versione di vSphere. Supporto ufficiale per Win 7 e Win 2008 R2. Risolto anche il problema per il client all'interno di questi SO. Aggiornamento anche per vCenter che adesso supporta anche DB2 come DB. DB2 era presente nella beta, tolto nella prima versione e ripristinato adesso con questo upgrade. Durante il corso What's New che ho seguito a Milano l'istruttore ci disse che nella fase di beta del corso c'era DB", ma poi era stato tolto e anche nelle domande per la certificazione erano presenti soltanto Oracle e SQl Server.

VMware Virtualization Day

On tuesday 17 I went to Virtualization Day on Milan. In the morning VmWare present vSphere and some package for vCenter and the new View. For the presentation they used a Laptop with an client hypervisor for the raod warrior (offline user). This laptop is a technical preview for the vmware technical guy. The ESX for laptop is capable to use wifi adapter and a new driver for VGA adapter whit 3D. They shown a Win 7 VM with Aero.

After the break I saw an IBM presentation. The speaker was Massimo Rè Ferre a virtualization guru. The presentation was a very good overview for the cloud technology key point and concept and a presentatione for the IBM Blade server S(an all in one solution for virtualization purpose). Thanks Massimo for your opinion and idea. I I hope that Massimo will publish the presentation on his blog!

L'atro ieri sono andato a Milano per il Vmware Virtualization Day. Nella mattinata è stato presentato oltre a vSphere e vari parti e aggiunte per vCenter è stato presentato View. Il prodotto per il VDI di Vmware. Oltre al client Windows PCoIP i tecnici hanno fatto vedere un portatile che è una technical preview con sopra un ESX per portatili... Quando fa il boot permette di scegliere le VM streemmate all'interno dall'amministratore di sistema e quando partono sono totalmete libere di usare tutte le periferiche del portatile comprese schede video 3D e rete wifi.

Al pomeriggio ho assistito ad una presentazione IBM di Massimo Rè Ferre. Veramente ben fatta con concetti chiave sul cloud e sostanza per implementare soluzioni di DR riviste per semplificare e non risolvere per forza con prodotti strillati! Complimenti a Massimo!

Approfittando dello sconto ottenibile sugli esami Microsoft ho presa la palla al balzo e ho dato l'ultimo esame che mi mancava per ottenere la certificazione MCSA. L'esame non era difficilissimo.
